The following projects are representative of the commercial & major projects work undertaken by our team.

Documenting & negotiation

  • Advising the Tasmanian Government in relation to the licensing arrangements relating to the establishment of a Tasmanian based Australian Football League team including funding and Stadium based access arrangements.
  • Acting for a New York headquartered renewable energy developer in relation to the preparation and negotiation of land access arrangements, power purchase agreements, EPC and Operations and Maintenance Agreements for various projects in multiple jurisdictions including South Africa, Puerto Rico, Australia and the Philippines).
  • Acting for a number of solar energy developers in Australia who are active in developing, financing and operating medium scale hybrid and solar generation assets.
  • Undertaking contract reviews and negotiations for contractors in connection with various design and construct, construct-only and managing contractor contract conditions in relation to projects across Eastern Australia, particularly in the government, infrastructure, healthcare, property and industrial sectors (typical value, $5 million to $75 million).

Navigating approval processes

  • Advice and assistance in relation to the statutory approvals, permits, licences, and obligations required under the Tasmanian resource management suite of legislation.
  • We regularly act for developers and Councils in planning appeals under the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 in TasCat, planning scheme amendments or major project assessments in the Tasmanian Planning Commission and in appeals in the Supreme Court.
  • We provide advice and assistance to clients who require specific approvals under the Environmental Management Pollution Control Act, particularly in the aquaculture and mining industries.
  • We provide advice and appear in matters involving biosecurity obligations and offences under the Living Marine Resources Management Act and the Biosecurity Act 2019.
  • We have particular expertise in the processes involved for the assessment of major projects pursuant to which multiple approvals are required across State and Commonwealth jurisdictions.
